Indoor cooling using the Recutech ERV enthalpy heat exchanger

Did you know that it is possible to achieve significant savings with heat recovery in summer operation?

Let’s take a closer look at this issue. Nowadays, most indoor spaces where people stay for longer periods of time are already air conditioned. As global warming progresses, this trend will continue to intensify. As we know, cooling is much more energy intensive than heating. We will consider that it is, for example, 37 °C outside and we want to have 22 °C inside. A simple aluminium heat exchanger can already cool the air to around 29 °C, saving 8.3 kW of power.

But if we are in places with high relative humidity outside (70% RH), such as India, Vietnam, Brazil, some parts of the USA, etc., we will bring this humid air inside. Everyone knows that if the air is warm and humid, we don’t breathe very well. Moreover, it is again more energy intensive to cool moist air than drier air. There will also be strong condensation everywhere. 

When using an enthalpy exchanger, much of the excess humidity in the incoming air is taken out. The cooling power saving will then be 14.8 kW… WAU

EPD and CO2 footprint

At Recutech, we have started a project to develop EN 15804-compliant EPDs for our products. Our prior LCA project and sustainability efforts constitute an excellent foundation to build on. Recutech have been the first manufacturer of counterflow heat exchangers able to provide carbon footprint calculation for each of our products.

This calculation has been implemented in the rSelect and became a part of the technical performance output from the software.
