Sealing of counterflow heat exchangers

  • To avoid leaks inside the unit, it is recommended to apply the seal on the front of the exchanger in the form of a double cross.

  • The principle of sealing in basic terms of separation of “airflows” is: Always seal the wide bands with a sealer at the ends of the tray.

  • For narrow trays we recommend the use of mounting rails in the form of a small tray. The mounting rails must be sealed.

Placing multiple counterflow heat exchangers behind each other

  • Each heat exchanger has a tolerance of + 0-5 mm in width (ie length). It is necessary to use a seal between the exchangers that can cover this tolerance. For example, 7x heat exchanger REK+67-500-26 with a length of 500 mm + 0-5 mm have the total tolerance is 0-35 mm. The inner space of the chamber, where I will insert the exchangers, will have a space of 3,535 mm. We have to find a seal so high and at the same time so soft that it takes up a range of 6.5 mm. In this example, we would recommend using a 10 mm high seal with a considered compression of 50-60%.

  • It is important for the seal to be airtight. We would recommend materials such as Polyolefin foam or EPDM seal in the shape of “D”.

  • This types of sealants are used only on the faces (front trays) of heat exchangers.

Location of counterflow heat exchangers

  • Option 1 – place in the unit in the given place from the top.

    In this case, we would recommend the same type of seal as would be used on the exchanger faces

    • Option 2 – inserting the exchangers from the side into the unit.

      In this case, its recommended to use a tool to insert the exchangers from the side at the beginning of the unit and then move them to the desired place. It is necessary to have a seal on the friction surfaces. A sealant with a Teflon layer – it is strong, does not tear and is slippery.

    Condensation drain tray

    • The tray must be sloped – an angle of about 2-3 ° is enough

      • Stainless steel or lacquered

      • The tray must be placed either directly below the heat exchanger or the condensate must be drained into the tray by means of “drips”.

      QR code and labels

      Every exchanger is individually labeled with information about its production process, leakage and quality control  Our customers can use fields C D and F for custom text, barcode and QR code lines.

      E – Serial number

      F – Custom barcode

      On average, our heat exchangers show leakages of less than 0.15% and are thus one of the tightest components for heat recovery in the market.
